On Sunday, October 11, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., we will host a talk event, “Interpreting Indonesia through Picture Books.”

Since 2019, the Chihiro Art Museum has collaborated with people involved in children’s books in Indonesia to organize exhibitions and events introducing the works of Chihiro Iwasaki and other Japanese picture book artists.
Last year, we hosted a talk event, “Rediscovering Ipe Ma’aruf: Indonesia’s Renowned Children’s Book Illustrator,” with Associate Professor Riama Maslan Sihombing of Institut Teknologi Bandung.
This year, we are pleased to present a talk event　”Interpreting Indonesia through Picture Books”.

Indonesia is a vast country with its many colors. By showcasing picture books by Indonesian writers and illustrators from the past decade, we will explore together how and in what way Indonesian-ness has been translated through stories and illustrations.
The event will also feature picture book readings in Indonesian. We warmly invite you to join us.

The talk will be conducted in Indonesian English with interpretation into Japanese.
