Chihiro Iwasaki Exhibition: A Childhood Dream

Chihiro Iwasaki’s childhood, which was spent during the period between the First and Second World Wars in Yamanote, uptown Tokyo, was a blessed one. Despite the tumult she would later endure during World War II, the peace and prosperity she enjoyed as a child remained in her heart throughout her life. Also, it was during her childhood that Chihiro discovered the lush illustrations that burst on the scene in such picture magazines as Kodomo no Kuni (Children’s Land), an encounter that led her to become a picture book artist. In this exhibition, we will focus on Chihiro’s childhood, presenting the illustrations for children she was exposed to during this period of her life and how they influenced her work, along with the picture books she created based on her childhood memories.
