Chihiro Iwasaki, Boy Skiing, 1969
“Next to drawing, I enjoy traveling,” Chihiro once said. The sketchbooks she always carried record the impressions that moved her during her journeys, from beautiful landscapes to portraits of her son, with whom she spent time away from the bustle of daily life.
Many of her works also reflect the perspective of an artist who traveled on foot, including picture books such as The Red Balloon, which is set in Paris. Through sketches, photographs, and her artwork, this exhibition traces Chihiro’s memories of travel.
