Chihiro: The World of Andersen

During her career, Chihiro illustrated numerous familiar classic fairy tales that have long been loved in Japan. In particular, she was strongly attracted to the stories of Hans Christian Andersen, stories that portray the beauty, the sadness and the reality of the human world, Chihiro repeatedly produced illustrations based these tales and, in the process, created a body of work that represents a significant portion of her lifework. In this exhibit we display illustrations from Andersen stories that are still read and enjoyed today. We will track the ingenuity that Chihiro employed to create these works based on beloved fairy tales that other artists have also embraced as inspiration for their artwork.
