Chihiro Iwasaki, Children and Wisteria Flowers, 1970
Kacho-fugetsu (experiencing the beauty of nature) has been an important theme for the Japanese since ancient times. This Japanese aesthetic sensibility inherited by Chihiro is captured in many of her works that portray the fresh and vibrant beauty of nature. In this exhibit we showcase her representative works of children playing in four seasons, as well as picture book originals of Ame no Hi no Orusuban (Staying Home Alone on a Rainy Day) and Manyo no Uta (Verses of Ten Thousand Leaves). We will also explore how Japanese traditional art and her love of nature affected her expressions in compositions. We hope you will enjoy Chihiro’s Kacho-fugetsu filled with her poetic sensibility.
