Born in Yorkshire, England. She studied at Darlington School for Art and went on to study illustration and design at Leeds College of Art. During a one-and-a-half year stay in New York after marrying, she aspired to become an illustrator for picture books. While in New York, Hutchins met editor Susan Hirschmann and, taking her advice, created her first picture book, Rosie’s Walk, in 1968. Known for the quick tempo of the stories she wrote and her lively, humorous depictions of rural scenery, she was awarded the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1974 for The Wind Blew. https://pathutchins.com/
