Binette Schroeder
(Germany), 1939-2022
Born in Hamburg, Germany. She studied painting at the Schule für Gestaltung Basel (Basel School of Design) in Switzerland, which follows the Bauhaus philosophy of education. With a style reminiscent of Surrealist art, the content and artistic expression of Schroeder’s picture books are free of the influence of fashion trends. She was awarded the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava Golden Apple in 1969 for Lupinchen, and Special Prize of the German Youth Literature Prize in 1997 for her collected works.
