Adolf Born
(Czech Republic), 1930-2016
Born in the town of České Velenice, the Czech Republic. He received his visual arts education at the School of Applied Arts in Prague and is known for his color lithographs. Born received the Grand Prix at the Leipzig Book Fair in 1965 and 1976, the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava Golden Apple in 1979, was a runner-up for the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration in 1986, and a finalist for the same award in 2008. With a creative mindset and a taste for black humor, he also gained international acclaim as an animation filmmaker and caricaturist.
