Chihiro Iwasaki, Children and Umbrellas, 1969
Chihiro Iwasaki applied her fresh sensibilities in her illustrations to express the light and the sky in their various appearances depending on the season and time of the day, as well as rainy scenes infused with “wet” colors. In this exhibition, we will showcase Chihiro’s works depicting children playing in the rain with their umbrellas, and in the bright sunshine. Additionally, we will present her picture books Ame no Hi no Orusuban (Staying Home Alone on a Rainy Day), featuring illustrations blurry with rain, and Pochi no Kita Umi (What’s Fun Without a Friend?), with illustrations filled with summer light, showcasing Chihiro’s varied watercolor technique. We hope you will enjoy these works that delicately capture the various expressions of weather, one of nature’s most familiar aspects.
