Chihiro Art Museum Collection: In remembrance of Mr. Eric Carle

Eric Carle, author and illustrator of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the colorful picture book loved by children all over the world, passed away on May 23 at the age of 91.
It was Mr. Carle who, in 1985, donated one of his works to support the Museum’s concept that considers original picture book illustrations as works of art. Mr. Carle’s donation marked the first piece of artwork in the Chihiro Art Museum collection.
In this exhibit, we present Eric Carle works from our collection, introduce the collage technique he used to create them, and highlight the lengthy relationship that the Museum shared with him.
We hope you will enjoy the art of Eric Carle, an artist who continued to create for children.
