Born in Haiphong, Vietnam, and moved with his family to England at the age of five. While working for an automobile company, a trading firm, and an insurance company, he took evening classes at the Westminster School of Art, becoming a professional artist at the age of 27. Stories that Ardizzonne told his children led to the creation of the Little Tim series of picture books, which he wrote and illustrated, starting with Little Tim and the Brave Sea Captain (1936). He also illustrated over 180 titles including works by Eleanor Farjeon, Walter John De La Mare, and H.C. Andersen. During World War II, he was posted overseas as a full-time official war artist and recorded troop activity and fighting in various countries. For Tim All Alone (1956), he was awarded the inaugural Kate Greenaway Medal. https://www.facebook.com/andreapetrlikART/
