Chihiro Iwasaki, Boy Washing His Face, 1956
Chihiro Iwasaki started her career as an artist in the field of publishing art for children’s books in the late 1940s after World War II. Her career coincided with the time when artists of children’s books gradually shifted their style from merely providing illustrations to creating picture books. In this exhibit, we explore the path of her career from the time she was illustrating for paper-theater storytelling panels, picture magazines and fairy tale collections as a children’s artist, to the time she became a picture book artist, creating many profound pieces.
