Chihiro Iwasaki, “Playing House”, 1959
Drawing children was a continued theme throughout Chihiro’s career. Frequently captured in her works are scenes of children at play. Play is said to have an important role in the development of children’s bodies and minds and enriches our daily lives. In this exhibit, we will present children and play drawn in picture books Tonari ni Kita Ko (Will You Be My Friend?), Akai Fusen (Red Balloon), picture magazines such as Asobi (Play)and child care books as well as illustrations for karuta (playing cards).
