Irene Savino
(Venezuela), b. 1953
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, to an Italian father and a Venezualan mother. She lived in Italy from 4 to 11 years old. After studying graphic design at the Instituto de Diseño Neumann in Caracas, she studied illustration at the Parsons School of Design in New York City. Since 1984, Savino has served as art director and a graphic designer at Ediciones Ekaré and teaches illustration for children’s books at a university in Barcelona. In 1996, she received the Best Book for Children of the Year in Venezuela and second prize at the Noma Concours for Picture Book Illustrations for El Dueno de la Luz (The Owner of the Light). She now lives in Spain.
